General Award Info
The maximum amount a scholarship recipient is eligible to receive is $25,000 USD for 12 months. HAESF considers it to be a generous award, significantly above average when compared to similar scholarships or stipends available to international students at leading American universities. Depending on individual circumstances, the award may cover the following:
- tuition
- one round-trip economy fare plane ticket from Hungary to the U.S.
- room and board (in shared accommodations)
- local travel
- health insurance
- personal allowance
Awards do NOT cover:
- dependent related expenses
- vacation/ leisurely travel in the U.S.
- gift or pleasure shopping
- hardware or equipment purchases (computers, laptops, printers etc.)
- additional expenses that pertain to lifestyle preferences
Please, be advised that in most cases the HAESF Graduate Scholarship award will not be sufficient to cover all tuition fees and living expenses. Seeking alternative funding options (receiving school, other scholarship funds etc.) is highly recommended.
Individual Awards
Monetary amounts vary from individual to individual depending on the length, location and nature of the individual academic program. Scholarship amounts are determined based on each applicant's individual circumstances, the estimated cost of attendance, and are not negotiable. The maximum amount cannot exceed $25,000 USD for 12 months.
Please, note that Graduate Scholarship recipients are required to maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA in order to continue receiving financial support from HAESF.
Housing
Selected Scholarship recipients will be responsible for locating and securing adequate housing.
Visa Services
Scholarship recipients will be responsible for securing an appropriate U.S. visa. Please, contact your receiving school/institution for more information.
3-Year Home Residency Requirement
Upon completion of the HAESF program participants are required to return to Hungary for a minimum of three years, and are not permitted to stay or attempt to stay in the U.S. or any other foreign country, including to work, or pursue work. (Short-term visits to foreign countries whose primary purpose is for tourism or short-term business trips are allowed.)
The residency requirement constitutes a moral obligation that relates to the foundational aim of the HAESF program of promoting free enterprise, business and social development in Hungary through investment in human capital. Applicants should agree to uphold the 3-year residency requirement as precondition for acceptance. Participants who do not comply with the three-year residency requirement may be required to refund their scholarship award.
